Our History

The Berean Church of Thornton, Colorado, comes from a rich spiritual heritage with deep roots. In 1929, Winfield C. Johnson came into contact with what is now generally known as the grace message, under the tutelage of Pastor J.C. O’Hair and Pastor Cornelius R. Stam.

Win would engage with Pastor O’Hair for 19 years, and during the latter part of that period, he devoted himself largely to children’s ministry and quickly became known as a natural. For 24 years, young people came to know Christ under his ministry.

In addition, Win was the Editor of the well-known Amazing Grace for 27 years, and for 21 years the Director of the much-loved Rocky Mountain Grace Camp.

However, with Win’s growth in the knowledge of God’s Word, rightly divided, and with a growing group of grace believers in the Denver area, Brother Johnson accepted a call to the pastorate at The Berean Church in 1958.

For over 30 years, Pastor Win Johnson provided leadership and guidance to what was then called The Berean Church of Denver.

Perhaps the most telling testimony to the high regard in which Pastor Johnson is held is that for 6 years he was the President of Grace Gospel Fellowship and for the next 15 years, President of Berean Bible Fellowship until age 75. In 1993 Pastor Johnson went home to glory.

Soon after the passing of Pastor Johnson, leadership was passed on to yet another faithful Brother; A brother fully committed to the work of Christ, highly gifted in the knowledge & wisdom of God, and extremely well-versed in the gospel of God’s grace. Bennett Boothe now oversees the ministry of others given to us by the Lord. Many of whom are gifted as "Planters" or "Waterers". To this day, Pastor Bennett stands strong with a continued focus on encouraging others to daily Bible Study, like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, equipping the faithful to teach what they learn and do the work of an evangelist.
